OKCPD Launches Free Community Police Academy

The Oklahoma City Police Department is offering a Community Police Academy that provides community members with an inside look at the department. The academy runs for 10 weeks and offers classes every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Two sessions are scheduled each year.

Participants learn about various law enforcement subjects through instruction from OKCPD personnel. Classes include presentations in the classroom as well as visits to the department's firearms range. Attendees also observe training exercises conducted by the tactical team and bomb squad.

The academy includes tours of multiple department facilities and opportunities to engage with police department leaders from various positions. The program is designed to increase community engagement and understanding of police work, and it is free to attend. Application materials are provided free of charge.

Interested applicants can deliver their completed application in person or by mail at the Police Training Center, located at 600 North Portland Avenue in Oklahoma City. The Training Center accepts applications on an ongoing basis, and selected applicants are notified in advance of the upcoming session.
